This terrifying creature washed up on a beach in the Philippines recently.

It turned out to be a megamouth shark. It's strange because the species is a particularly rare type of shark. There have only been around 60 live sightings in history.

The shark may look mean, but megamouths actually pose little threat to humans. They're filter feeders who filter water through several rows of teeth. The rows catch plankton, which is where they get most of their sustenance.

Don't worry, though. Megamouth sharks are mostly deep ocean dwellers it's extremely unlikely you'll encounter one at the beach.
